Scottish Microbiology Society Becomes a Full Member of FEMS
At the Federation of European Microbiology Societies council meeting held in Orchid, Macedonia in November 2003, the Scottish Microbiology Society was voted in as a full member of FEMS. A particular advantage for individual SMS members is that they can now apply to FEMS for research fellowships - with a very good chance of success! Typically, grants of 3,000Eur would be available for members intending to visit a research laboratory in another European country for a period of 3-months. Applications require to be made through the FEMS delegate of the SMS, currently Prof Graeme Walker, University of Abertay Dundee. Note that the deadline for the second round of fellowships for 2005 is June 15 th .
Other advantages for SMS are that the Society can apply for support through FEMS for future symposia and scientific meetings.
Scottish Microbiology Society members automatically become members of FEMS when annual subscriptions are received by the Treasurer.
